The Bay Islands

It's attractive Honduras region, that is a marine reserve Honduras. It is located at 30 miles off the Northern coast of Honduras (840 miles from Miami and 990 miles from New Orleans). The Island group consist of three large islands of Roatan, Guanaje and Utila, as well as a lot of smaller cays. For several years these Islands were un-known, until recently, they were re-discovered and now they are considered as the most beautiful of the Tropical Caribbean.

Is the second largest barrier reef in the world, after the one in Australia. This does that the divers of the deep & surface, do not have to make a mayor effort to find beautiful coral gardens, sponges of shiny colors, coves and wrecks.

Roatan

Is 30 miles long string beans-shaped and 4 miles width. its cover with a great tropical vegetation. Roatan best characteristic is the white sand beaches, border with countless coconut trees. Its water is extremely crystalline, which let observe the movement of the different fish species between the multicolor seaweed.

The capital of the Island is Coxen Hole, the commerce center of the Island and the connection with La Ceiba through the Ferry taht join them. Even though the city has its limitations on tourist attractions, there is where you can find the bus station to move around the Island.

Climate

Virtually idyllic weather prevails year-round. Temperatures hover between 77F and 84F with gentle trade winds from the southeast. October to December are the wettest months, but rainfall is generally periodic and of short duration. Sand fleas and mosquitoes exist, but are not unbearable. Similar to cape cod or New Hampshire in the summer. Just bring a good insect repellent. Average water temperature varies from 78F in winter to 82F in summer.

Money

Lempiras is the Honduran currency but U.S. Dollars are widely accepted on the Bay Islands; cash, travelers checks & Visa, MasterCard or Amex credit cards are our accepted forms of payment and the most commonly used on the Island.

Electricity / Water

The electricity in Roatan is similar to the USA, 110 volts AC, 60 cycles, using standart U.S. plugs. The water for the resort comes from wheels and is chlorine. The water is purify and good to drink it.

Cultura and Language

Although Spanish is the official language of Honduras, Roatan is bilingual. English with a British lilt is widely spoken in the Bay Islands.
